Beautiful drive to work this morning!!!

Ryan and I are on week #2 of our travel assignment in SD and we couldn't be more blessed!

The hospital we are working for is a level 2 trauma center and does a fair amount of surgery cases daily.

I cannot stress enough how many talented and pleasant people work at this hospital. It is truly refreshing to work in an environment with people that not only take pride in their work, but they go out of their way to help each other out!

There has been talk about possibly resigning Ryan and I for another 3 months in SD...but we shall see what happens between now and June! (we definitely wouldn't mind extending our contract!)

Southern Twang

Something Ryan and I have heard since day #1 here:
"You've got an interesting accent....where in the world are you from?!"
I didn't realize how southern I sounded until I got up here. (Ryan on the other hand has a decent sized southern accent lol)
I've caught myself saying, "Ya'll" a lot. I'm proud to say that I've taught some of the ladies what 'Bless your heart' means lol
Funny story time:
Today Ryan was asked if he was ready for the patient to be brought back to the O.R. and Ryan said, "Why aintcha' gone yet"
The nurse just stared at Ryan with a puzzled look for a few moments. Ryan then replied, "You are trying to figure out what I just said, right?"

Oh well....we're just bringing some good ole' Southern Charm to South Dakota!

I think next time I will try and freak them out by saying this:

I get to take my first day of call tomorrow (happy squeal!!) I am a bit of a dork when it comes to the O.R. lol I love working in surgery for so many reasons (too many to list) I am looking forward to seeing how their call is here.

Ryan and I are just about completely settled in our new apartment (only a few boxes still in sight around the living room).

Had a terrible craving for chocolate and decided to check out this place:

Ahhhh...we love this place!

Next week we plan on doing some more in depth exploring around here. Neither of us is on call next week, so we are going to have some fun!!!

Downtown Rapid City: Cool shops

70 degrees and a little windy = perfect day to walk around and explore downtown Rapid City!
Ryan and I had a blast exploring this quaint little downtown area. There are TONS of neat shops, restaurants, pubs and of course...coffee shops!
Our new favorite coffee shop is Alternative Fuel Coffee House. This place has a huge selection of coffee drinks (including Ryan's favorite: french press coffee) smoothies, fresh roasted coffee on location, as well as various desserts and brunch items. We give this place 4 stars! If anyone visits Rapid City, this place is a must to try!

As we walked down the streets, we met a friendly local lady that showed us this area called 'Art Alley'. Apparently, the city has encouraged street artists to display their talents up and down this long stretch of alley in the downtown area. Check out these cool pics!

After checking out Art Alley, we stumbled upon this ridiculously cute celtic store. The lady that owns this store has a thick Irish accent, awesome sense of humor and talked with us for a long time about all of the cool places to check out, here in Rapid City. Her store is called Celtic Connection

We have had a ball checking out this amazing town!
We plan on checking out Deadwood soon (pics to follow)

Exploring SD: Mount Rushmore

After work today, Ryan and I drove 20 minutes to check out Mount Rushmore!!
Everything from the ride all the way to the site was absolutely beautiful!
It's so cool to be able to visit a place that I've only ever seen in U.S. geography books.

Needless to say, Ryan and I had a great time. We only stayed for 30 minutes or so today but we are definitely going back to check out the various hiking trails around the park.
