Week #3 in South Dakota: Exploring Custer State Park

Yesterday was a fantastic adventure, for team Rybo! Ryan and I put the top down on his mustang and drove all around Custer State Park, in the sunny 79 degree weather. It was a breezy and warm drive.
I can honestly say that I have never in my life smelled air that fresh! I felt like I was breathing the purest air next to the lumber section at Lowe's. There is nothing like the scent of fresh cut pine. Song birds were singing their praise, as we drove 4 hours all around the park.
We met some very friendly people passing on motorcycles and even struck up some small talk as we were driving! I love how friendly people are here!

Here is a pic of the route we took. We took 79 to 36 and drove the area in red:

Pics from our day:

Cute farms along the road

We were wanting to drive around Needles Highway but it is closed until April.
(Thank goodness April starts next week!)

We are loving this area SO much! There is so much to do outdoors and all within a 40 minute drive from our apartment.
If for some awesome reason Ryan and I win the lotto, we will be flying our friends and family up here. EVERYONE needs to experience this place. I don't even think the photos do this place justice.

We are so ridiculously blessed to be able to work up here.

Until next time!!!

Sunday Funday

Ryan and I now have a new morning tradition: breakfast at Bully Blends!
This coffee/tea shop is like a coffee shop you would see in a movie. Cute family type atmosphere, a huge selection of coffee/tea drinks, not to mention a killer menu for breakfast & lunch. Check out their website here: Bully Blends
Bully Blends is Teddy Roosevelt inspired, hence the weekly quote/factoid at the shop called 'TRuisms':

Our breakfast was amazing. Ryan and I both got spinach and cheese omelettes, delicious sides... not to mention a delicious cup of coffee!
We ended up buying a half pound of their most famous roast 'Big Stick blend' and 'Black Rhino' espresso roast for Ryan, so he can use his french press.
If anyone wants to come visit *cough cough..Greg, Rosie..Charla...* we will take you here!

The owner was sweet and made me a fresh cup to go!

Hooray for a new Sunday tradition in South Dakota!

After we left Bully Blends, Ryan and I went out to find the presidential statue of his dad's most favorite president of all time: Ronald Reagan. We finally found him at the corner of 6th and St. Joseph.
(Here is your pic, Mark!)

(A pic for my Mom...b/c apparently I'm not in many pics due to being the photographer)

As we were leaving we saw good ole' George Washington, properly fixed right in front of a Starbucks. It's good to know that George stands by Starbucks.

Ryan is taking me out for an early birthday present, later this afternoon: a mani/pedi !!!
I will miss having my birthday with twin brother Geoff tomorrow but I am excited to be able to celebrate it in a new place and with the love of my life.
Until next time.....

Getting Settled with the New Job & More Exploring

Beautiful drive to work this morning!!!

Ryan and I are on week #2 of our travel assignment in SD and we couldn't be more blessed!
The hospital we are working for is a level 2 trauma center and does a fair amount of surgery cases daily.
I cannot stress enough how many talented and pleasant people work at this hospital. It is truly refreshing to work in an environment with people that not only take pride in their work, but they go out of their way to help each other out!
There has been talk about possibly resigning Ryan and I for another 3 months in SD...but we shall see what happens between now and June! (we definitely wouldn't mind extending our contract!)

Southern Twang

Something Ryan and I have heard since day #1 here:
"You've got an interesting accent....where in the world are you from?!"
I didn't realize how southern I sounded until I got up here. (Ryan on the other hand has a decent sized southern accent lol)
I've caught myself saying, "Ya'll" a lot. I'm proud to say that I've taught some of the ladies what 'Bless your heart' means lol
Funny story time:
Today Ryan was asked if he was ready for the patient to be brought back to the O.R. and Ryan said, "Why aintcha' gone yet"
The nurse just stared at Ryan with a puzzled look for a few moments. Ryan then replied, "You are trying to figure out what I just said, right?"

Oh well....we're just bringing some good ole' Southern Charm to South Dakota!

I think next time I will try and freak them out by saying this:

I get to take my first day of call tomorrow (happy squeal!!) I am a bit of a dork when it comes to the O.R.  lol   I love working in surgery for so many reasons (too many to list) I am looking forward to seeing how their call is here.

Ryan and I are just about completely settled in our new apartment (only a few boxes still in sight around the living room).

Had a terrible craving for chocolate and decided to check out this place:

Adorable Easter display!
Loving the 'Deja brew' sign

Took Ryan's car around town in the 70 degree weather!

The mall makes me super happy

Ahhhh...we love this place!

Next week we plan on doing some more in depth exploring around here. Neither of us is on call next week, so we are going to have some fun!!!

Until next time.....
